Who are the Greenwich Stars?

The Greenwich Stars are the most popular and respected basketball organization in the New York/Connecticut area.

The Greenwich Stars run year-round programs for boys and girls ages 4-17 from all towns. Scholarships are available.

I have questions about Trying Out for the Greenwich Stars…

If you have any questions or need further info on any of the Greenwich Stars teams, please go to the contact page or email: john.raybin@GreenwichStars.com or call: 203.661.4444

How will the players be selected for a team?

The Greenwich Stars have teams of many different levels. Tryouts are held for the Fall and Winter Travel teams, and the Spring AAU teams. When trying out for a Greenwich Stars team, players will be evaluated on their basketball ability and skills, athleticism, attitude and more. The Coaches and The President/General Manager work together to select team members.

Is there a fee for Trying Out and how do you evaluate players?

Unlike most other programs, Greenwich Stars tryouts are FREE. There is never a charge for Trying Out. Players are put through basic basketball drills to evaluate the skill levels of each player.  Game-like competition is also held between potential teammates for further evaluation.

Do I need to attend all the Tryouts?

Players should try to attend all tryouts (if possible). It is recommended that players make all tryouts to give them the best opportunity to be evaluated.

Note: Tryouts are always FREE.

Who selects which players make a team?

The Coaches and the President/General Manager work together to select the players for each team.

Is playing time guaranteed if my child makes a Greenwich Stars Travel or AAU team?

Every child who plays for a Greenwich Stars Travel or AAU team will play in each game. However, there is no guaranteed amount of playing time for any player. Coaches must weigh a number of factors for each and every game as to which players will start and who plays and how much.

My child was cut and I believe my son was a better player than players who did make the team.

The Greenwich Stars have many basketball teams for all kinds of players.  Free Tryouts for Fall and Winter Travel teams, and Spring AAU teams are held and deciding who should make each team is not an exact science. The coaches and general manager will do their best to identify the best players for each team. It is important to remember that all teams need different types of players to be successful.

What Makes the Greenwich Stars Special?

The Greenwich Stars are 5 Time Zero Gravity National Champions. In 2019, our 9U and 11U Boys Basketball Teams both won the National Championship. The Greenwich Stars coaches are special. The coaches are great teachers and communicators who always go “the extra mile” to make sure each basketball player is the best they can possibly be. Each of our senior coaches have won multiple championships and have extensive basketball resumes. Our coaches preach great sportsmanship, dedication and respect for the game. Swearing, poor behavior and technical fouls are not allowed on the Greenwich Stars. Ever. Every player will learn the fundamentals and skills needed to be a better player. Our practices are “learning experiences” and teamwork is emphasized….and yes, we do like to win!
